For my Typography 2 class, we were required to create a "typophoto" book combining typography with photos that we take ourselves. This book is meant to be a journal documenting my experiences moving to a new place for school and the growth that comes alongside taking on new challenges while chasing your goals. I decided to use packaging tape as the main binder, as it represents moving to a new place. I ended up making two different books, one normal book that is about the size of a magazine and another smaller book that I wanted to feel a lot more DIY, using cardboard and pages that I glued together by hand.
For my Applied Art and Design 1 class, we were required to choose a company related to our field, design an outcome that aligns with the company, and produce work as if we were working for their team. I decided to choose the company "Full Punch" and redo some of its branding and create some promotional pieces for the company. For my designs, I decided to go with a sports theme, so a lot of my imagery references and takes inspiration from professional sports. The reason why I went with this sports theme is because the company Full Punch uses a lot of sports references as well as imagery already in their current branding, so I thought I could stretch this idea further, playing more strongly into these references. I wanted my logo to feel like an early 2000s sports team logo because the early 2000s was a great era for professional sports, and logos with this aesthetic bring a certain level of nostalgia that will resonate with the audience and further push the sports themes that the company already has in place. My designs take the branding of Full Punch and recontextualize it into a more nostalgic era, playing on themes of sports as well as brand development and improvement.
As a part of my Applied Art and Design 1 class, we were required to design a style guide for a company that we made up. This design is supposed to reflect the values and beliefs associated with our made-up business. My business that I created is called "MongoMango" and is a skateboarding company based in Vancouver. I decided to go with a monochromatic orange theme because orange is a very happy and poppy colour, and I think that this reflects the brand very well. I went with Meta as my secondary text for paragraphs and smaller text because it is very legible and accessible, as well as HWT Artz as the header font because it is very bold and has a pop aesthetic, which reflects skateboard culture. I also used some of my own illustrations and paintings for the designs of shirts and skateboard decks because they have a similar feeling to skateboard graphics, and I think that they portray the aesthetic that I was aiming for very well.
For my Motion Design 1 and 2 classes, I created these animations. The animations focus on the character and feel of the moving pieces. The first animations are logo introductions sequenced in a continuous loop. The second animation is a collage-style music video created using rotoscoping and layering different textures and effects.
For our Applied Art and Design 2 class, we had an assignment requiring us to create a concept for an app that will solve problems faced in the community. I chose to create an app that would help people to learn how to cook recipes as well as how to use the ingredients that they already have to create less food waste. This app is targeted toward college students and young adults who are learning to cook and make food for themselves for the first time. My app allows the user to learn about cooking as well as to share their own recipes with other learners.
